Presidential Decree No. 1600 — WHEREAS, the salaries of the Chief Justice and the Associate Justices of the Supreme Court as fixed in the Constitution at P75,000 and P60,000 each, respectively, are not commensurate with the volume of judicial cases and in the complexity and importance of the responsibility involved;

Section 1

Section 1. The salaries of the Chief Justice and Associate Justices of the Supreme Court are hereby fixed at P90,000 per annum for the Chief Justice and P75,000 per annum each for the Associate Justices.

Section 2

Section 2. There is hereby appropriated out of any funds in the National Treasury not otherwise appropriated, such sums as may be necessary to pay the salary increases provided for in Section 1 hereof.

Section 3

Section 3. This Decree shall take effect immediately
