Presidential Decree No. 982

WHEREAS, there is a need to have a wide representation of the various sectors in the governing Boards of state universities and colleges to provide for more relevant direction in their governance.

Section 1. Any provisions of law to the contrary notwithstanding, the composition of all governing Boards of chartered state universities and colleges is hereby amended to replace the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education and the Chairman of the House Committee on Education as members of the governing Boards whenever stipulated in the individual charters, with the appropriate Regional Executive Director of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) for chartered state colleges and universities within his region, and a prominent citizen from the public or private sector with proven competence in his field of specification to be appointed by the President. The prominent citizen shall serve for a period of six years.

Section 2. All laws, decrees, executive orders or existing rules and regulations contrary to or inconsistent with the provisions of this Decree are hereby repealed, amended or modified accordingly.
